What to Know About Luxury Vinyl Flooring

With so many luxury vinyl flooring options on the market today, finding the best product for your application can be daunting. To meet this challenge, we’ve developed our Powell Luxury Vinyl to include a comprehensive line of flooring tailored to meet a variety of durability demands and unique conditions across residential settings and commercial industries. From permanent glue-down products to innovative loose lay systems, varying plank sizes, wear layer thicknesses, and stability layers, our robust Powell offering has been optimized for specific performance needs. So, what makes our Powell Luxury Vinyl Flooring different and what should you consider when selecting the most suitable product?

Wear Layer
A flooring’s wear layer is the topmost layer of your finish, this clear layer is tasked with protecting floors from the brunt of wear and tear and provides a waterproof protection to keep spills and moisture from damaging your core construction. Wear layers range in thickness or ‘mils’ which represent one thousandth of an inch. The higher the wear layer, the more robust your flooring will be, ensuring better resistance to impact and indentation. For many light commercial and residential needs, our 12 mil Powell products offer exceptional value while a high-traffic flooring solution like our 20 mil wear layer products may be required for heavier demands common in commercial settings.

Core Construction
Our premium Powell flooring consists of multi-layer, luxury vinyl with top-down waterproof protection that withstands humidity and moisture and performs beautifully with no maintenance required. But not every space should be treated equally, and flooring installed in challenging climates and may require enhanced added dimensional stability. We’ve strengthened the core construction in select Powell products with integrated stability layers to maintain a secure installation with little to no expansion, even when exposed to heavy moisture or rapid temperature shifts. For higher stability needs, we recommend our Powell 4.5mm or 5mm acoustical with fiberglass-infused wear layers or our innovative Powell PLUS that is warranted for 45 - 90° F.
